Havana, June 1st, 2015
Dear partners, colleagues and friends,
Today is a very sad day for our Meliá Hotels International Cuba family. After several weeks of fighting, Mr. Gabriel García Llabrés, who was our Sales Director for many years, lost his battle against a disease on Saturday May 30th, 2015. Those who accompanied him closely hoped to see him recover as he so often did in the past, beating adversity with that iron will that far exceeded the forces of age and disease that were thrown his way. Unfortunately, this time, it would not be so.
Gabriel was a leader and inspiration for generations of professionals in the tourism industry. He had dedicated himself fully to Meliá Hotels International and Cuba, his second homeland. His fellow colleagues and friends would often say Spanish-born but with a Cuban soul. He leaves in those who knew him, a mark of admiration and respect.
To his colleagues, a great family that he will always be part of, he leaves a heritage of hard work, discipline and thousands of stories to tell. He was always the first to come in to the office, the last to leave, betting everything on ideas and projects he so passionately defended, even beyond what his health would allow. He had already confessed several times that he would never retire and that his career was his life, his passion.
In this year of celebrations, Cuba breaks records for more visitors. Havana shines more than ever, and Meliá Cuba celebrates 25 years of existence.
Dedicating this Monday to Gabriel, a professional like no other, we will keep him in our memories and our hearts will always hold a special place for him because he is a big part of these great accomplishments and was a wonderful man.
